Kangaroos are famous animals from Australia. They cannot walk like most other animals. Instead, they hop on their two strong back legs. A big kangaroo can leap as far as a bus is long.
A kangaroo uses its thick tail like an extra leg. The tail helps it balance and even push off the ground. Kangaroos also cannot easily move backwards.
Baby kangaroos are called joeys. A newborn joey is tiny, about the size of a jellybean. It lives and grows inside a warm pouch on its mother's belly. Kangaroos eat grass and plants, and they often rest in the shade during the hottest part of the day.
