Every word can be sounded out using only the phonics taught up to this stage: consonant digraphs (two letters, one sound): sh, ch, th, wh, ck, ng, and the double-letter endings ll, ss, ff, zz. The only exceptions are the permitted heart words (learned by sight): the, a, i, to, of, was, he, she, we, me, be, go, no, so, do, you, my, by, are, they, said, put, her, here, there, come, some, one, all, into.
A duck sat on a rock. A big bug ran up the rock. The duck did peck at the bug. The bug hid in the moss. Then the duck fell off the rock with a bang. The duck got up. The duck is not sick.
