Decodable Reader: Tim the Cat

Read the story out loud, sounding out each word. Then answer the questions together. A grown-up can read the questions aloud.

For the grown-up: Decodable reader, Stage 1: First CVC words (short a and short i). Every word can be sounded out using only the phonics taught up to this stage: single consonants with the short vowels a and i, in simple consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words such as cat, sit and pin. The only exceptions are the permitted heart words (learned by sight): the, a, i.

I am Sam. I had a cat. The cat is Tim. Tim is a big cat. Tim ran at a rat. The rat ran. Tim did nap. I pat Tim. Tim is a fit cat.
