Free printable position & maps worksheets with answer keys, position words, simple maps and following directions. Pick a grade below for ready-made PDFs, or generate a fresh one. Every answer is computed in code, so the key is never wrong.
How to teach it
Read a simple grid map, naming what is above, below, left and right of a landmark, giving the column then row of a square, and following a path (so many squares right and down).
Worked example
What is directly to the left of the pond?
Answer: nothing
Common mistake
Left and right depend on the viewer, and grid squares are read across (column) then up or down (row), not the other way around.
What's inside
- What is directly to the left of the pond?
- Which square is the flower in? Give the column then the row.
- Is the dog to the left or to the right of the pond?
- Is the apple above or below the pond?
- Start at the dog. Move 2 squares right. What is in that square?
- What is directly above the ball?
Sample questions. Each set (A, B, C…) has fresh numbers and a computed answer key.
