Dev usually took bus 12 home, but that afternoon he was reading a comic and climbed onto bus 21 by mistake. He only looked up when the bus turned down a street he had never seen. His stomach went cold.
He remembered what his mum always said: if you are lost, find someone who works there. Dev walked to the front and told the driver, whose name badge read "Rosa," that he was on the wrong bus.
Rosa did not laugh or scold him. She radioed the depot, then let Dev sit right behind her. At the next stop, she pointed across the road. "Bus 12 comes there in six minutes," she said. "Wait where I can see you." Dev thanked her twice. When he finally got home, he decided to keep his comics in his bag until his stop.
