What is a vertex?
A vertex is a point where lines or edges meet, in other words a corner. Flat shapes have vertices where their sides meet, and solid shapes have vertices where their edges meet. The plural of vertex is vertices.
Examples
- A triangle has 3 vertices.
- A square has 4 vertices.
- A cube has 8 vertices.
Quick facts
- In a 2D shape, the number of vertices equals the number of sides.
