What is a ratio?
A ratio compares quantities. Written 'a : b', it says how many of one thing there are for a given number of another. A ratio of 2 : 3 means two of the first for every three of the second. Ratios can be simplified like fractions.
Examples
- 2 : 3 (2 blue for every 3 red).
- The ratio 4 : 2 simplifies to 2 : 1.
- Mixing squash 1 : 4 with water.
