English develops confident readers, writers and communicators. It is organised into three interrelated strands, Language (how English works), Literature (understanding and enjoying texts) and Literacy (using English for real purposes). Foundation to Year 6 focuses on phonics, decoding, vocabulary, grammar, handwriting and comprehension.
